Contract extended or price raised? What the letter means and how to cancel

A provider informs you about a price increase, new terms or an extension.

How to recognise the letter

  • The sender is a company you have a contract with.
  • It announces a price increase, new terms or an extension.
  • Often there is a special right to cancel with a deadline.

Which deadline applies?

No statutory deadline.

If a contract with standard terms is tacitly extended after the minimum term, it can then be cancelled at any time with at most one month's notice (§ 309 Nr. 9 BGB, for contracts since 01.03.2022 under Art. 229 § 60 EGBGB). The deadline is in the contract.
